History of Farm Kiripotib
After purchasing Farm Kiripotib in 1978, Hans von Hase developed it into one of the more successful sheep farms in the country, whilst also building up the cattle ranching aspect. However the average annual rainfall in this semi desert area is only 250mm, ranging from just 80mm in a poor year to perhaps 400mm in a good season and unfortunately periods of serious drought do occasionally occur. A carefully designed rotational grazing system helps to lighten the burden during such droughts by developing spare grazing capacities. But just consider this: the available grazing at Kiripotib covers an area of over 10.000 hectares, supporting both sheep and cattle. With a carrying capacity of 1 sheep to 2 ha per annum and one cow needing 12 - 15 ha, you can quickly comprehend the vast amount of land needed in this area of Namibia to build up a farm into an economic unit.
Hans von Hase is both a passionate farmer and active safari operator. Through his many years of travelling Southern Africa he knows many of its most intriguing spots. The latest destination of the safaris offered by him takes his guests to the exciting hinterland of Zambia ( see www.sambia-safari.com for more information). However his tours also reveal the beauty of Botswana, Zimbabwe, and off course Namibia. His routes take into account the individual preferences of his safari guests.
His talented and artistic wife, Claudia, studied jewellery design both in Berlin and Stellenbosch. Over the past few years Claudia has developed the karakul carpet weavery as well as her jewellery design studio. Her gallery on the farm further boasts some beautiful artefacts carefully sourced from all over Africa.
